Last weekend I had the pleasure of traveling to Williamsport, Pa., to shoot the Little League World Series with two awesome reporters, Mike Wagner and Todd Jones (who, oddly enough, worked at the Kernel in the 80s). They work on the projects desk (a cherished relic in many newsrooms today), and have been working two years on an investigative series about youth sports.

Our goal at the LLWS was as a last-day examination on how just out of control some sports have gotten. With ESPN covering every game (with slow-mo replays), security that rivals many airports (no liquids over 4oz, please) and sponsors handing out top-of-the-line sporting equipment to players, it’s hard to imagine these kids are, well, just kids.

But the whole series will assuredly be stunning and, at times, shocking. I’ll be sure to post up some links when they’re all set to go. And once the LLWS story runs, I’ll start posting some of those photos as well.
