The Art Of American Football

The other day I shot some guys laying down artificial turf on one of the local high schools.

*Insert pun using the word ‘music’ here

UK played in the Music City Bowl in Nashville for the second year in a row on Monday. Last year I totally bombed and came away with maybe two decent images. This year I did slightly better in the action department, but my fan features totally sucked. Just look for yourself.

I wanted a shot of kickoff from a high place, so I climbed u to the scoreboard where all the video cameras hang out and waited. Unfortunately the sun set behind the stands to the right before kickoff, so I was SOL. This is of the teams warming up beforehand.

While I waited in the tower all these people were walking around below me. Shadows can really work in your favor some times. This is not one of those times. They make this image very crowded and confusing.

I’ve gotten to the point where I can tell where the quarterback is going to throw the ball. This time he was throwing it to me. I jumped down on my knees and leaned forward with one arm outstretched and the other holding my camera, but then Keenan Burton jumped in front of me and tried to catch it. He did, then he landed on his back a couple feet in front of me and slid into me, but the refs called it incomplete. If only he had left it up to me.

If there’s one thing watching football this close has taught me, it’s that he’s not supposed to let go of the ball like that.

This young lady took to crowd-surfing as a means to keep warm. Personally, I think she should have just worn more clothes.

Apparently I just went fumble-crazy at this game.

The players were barely off the field and these guys were already packing up the benches.
